Ottawa's carbon targets get bad review

Toronto Star article

Considering the whole man-made global warming nonsense is sinking faster then a bad soufflé just out of the oven who cares what the activists think. In fact that even the Toronto Star refers to them as that, and it's admittedly a paper with an activist agenda, shows you where these people are coming from; somewhere way out in left field. Aside from the National Post very few news outlets in Canada are even talking about the trouble the IPCC is in these days. You might ask yourself why there isn't the coverage in Canada that this situation appears to be getting everywhere else in the world these days.

So as a public service to you all courtesy of the Libertarian Party here are some links you should bookmark so you can follow the fun. Pass it along to your friends and let them enjoy the monkey show as well. This nonsense is one good reason why Canada should say goodbye to the United Nations. I personally don't like the idea of my country dancing to a tune played by a bunch of countries who are, for the most part, run by despots.

You might like to read this article by Lawrence Soloman in the Nation Post and question not only what they are teaching them in our universities but also in the public school system. Maybe the real question is are they teaching them anything in our school system at all, aside from self-esteem and feeling good about themselves.

Text ed to be offered to grade 7 classrooms

Montreal Gazette Article

Wow this is certainly something that they need to know. Along with this questionable knowledge they might try more history, some courses in ethics, math, the ability to both read and write (yes I'm a radical) and especially economics. The latter for those times when some "progressive" tries to sell them a pie-in-the-sky social program they can all chant "bullshit, don't spend our future" at the same time.

Maybe it might be more responsible of the education system if they told them of the number of STD's that are in Canada and how easy it is now to get them. Let's face it when was the last time you saw a public service announcement in the media aimed at your children telling them of the dangers of STD's?

This is why 1 million children are being tutored and / or home schooled in Canada. Public education is a waste of money.

Tobacco Reduction Act - Ontario (now You See It Now you Don't)

Link

According to the link above the Tobacco Reduction Act, which came into effect on January 1, 2008, states all public areas including casino's were supposed to become smoke free. Now I believe the casino here in Ottawa still has a heated, sheltered area for it's patrons at this time.

All laws have a moral and ethical underpinning in that they are supposed to be applied and obeyed equally and not selectively as is the case here. It would be interesting to see what the public reaction to this new information might be if made public.

With the phony manufactured health issue of SHS they merely took on privately owned establishments and made scapegoats of smokers for their failed social engineering policies. By the way the link above doesn't work now which I find rather interesting and it's a government of Canada web site. Here's the first part of it http://www.cbsc.ic
.gc.ca

Interesting when you think they pass laws then don't want you to actually see them.

A Now A Banana

Ottawa Citizen Article

Randall Denley at the Ottawa Citizen tends to think as I do that Ontario is now aiming at achieving Third World Banana Republic status. A dubious accomplishment at best I think many of you would agree. I sure am glad I don't have any kids as the future is truly looking bleaker and bleaker for those people who do. Everything McGuinty touches turns to lost opportunities through coercive government interference in the free market system.

Let me ask you all one question. Given the known in-efficient aspects of both wind and solar power if you had to spend you own money, like he continually does, would you buy into this system? You can add this money coming out of your wallets and purses to the HST money that will also be disappearing in the next little while. Economic turnaround in Ontario I don't think so not in the foreseeable future. Certainly not in the private sector as this will just create another government bureaucracy paid for through taxation, your salaries, and not through profits from real goods and services where people vote with their own money as to what they really want in life.

Limiting Compassion Towards Haiti

Ottawa Sun Article

There is only a few things I would like to say here and they are : A) Canada since 1996 has now 1,175 million more people over 75 years of age and B) Canada also has 300 thousand fewer young people under the age of 15. We are also facing a tsunami of problems that are coming to a head as 40 years of costly social engineering is now about to blow up in our faces. The biggest drain on our ability to raise our standard of living or even maintain it is the huge size of our governments at all three levels. Mr. Layton and Mr. Ignatieff are both so far removed from reality in their view of things, of real life, that re-election should not even be considered. Although some of the "progressive" conservatives have a good view of this situation for the most part we can tar them, as a party, with the same brush.

Bringing in more refugees might be acceptable if two conditions are observed A) they must be young along with possessing the skills needed to work immediately and B) the idea of universal socialized everything must be done away with as it is now an unsustainable financial burden. Those people who might describe themselves as "middle class" are barely hanging on and any additional mouths to feed, subsidized housing, and welfare payments is coming out of their rapidly diminishing take home pay. If they're working at all. As to those immigrants and the skills they have to immediately start working can Canada actually afford to be seen as a place that steals these much needed people from their own country? What gives us the right or moral authority to take from another country the seeds of its' own salvation?

I point out that a Mother and /or a Fathers' duties are to their own children, and each other, and not someone else's Mother and Father; or their children. Family re-unification has brought people to this country in their middle years and once here they immediately start aging. This results in them needing medical services they have never paid for and denies that same service to those who have. In the case of medicine I personally believe that family doctors should be able to opt-out of the public system for a start and bill patients directly and not through a top heavy taxpayer funded government system. You only pay when you go and they pay their staff out of their own income not someone else's (yours) as is the case now. Not a perfect system, which doesn't exist, but certainly a better system.

Here in Ontario under the disastrous scandal ridden government of Dalton McGuinty we are facing mounting deficits and years of low, if not no, growth because he doesn't apparently have a clue as to what he's doing. Since we have 300 thousand fewer children in Canada can someone explain to me why we need the latest boondoggle daycare for children. Since there are fewer of them there should be cuts to educational funding in Ontario not increases. More importantly unless people can afford to have them, children that is, they're are not going to be that many in the future as well. So more old people needing gov't services and fewer young people to pay the freight. I just bet they'll be thrilled if and when someone gets up the nerve to tell them their finished before they even get started.

We must also remember that financial people are constantly saying Canadians aren't saving for their own retirement. With the taxes they have to content with from all three levels of government I ask you how can they save? With the public purse leaking money and paying bloated salaries to bureaucrats who, in many cases, should not even be there how can they? If we continue on this path of high taxation and spend-thrift government handouts I can give you a very good idea of what is in store for Canada as a nation.

Picture a wall.

The prorogation of Parliament is no threat to democracy

Ottawa Citizen Article

The interesting thing about this article is not what's in it but the author. Paul Benoit works for Hill and Knowlton Canada you can look at their web site here and as it says they are strategic communications consultancy organization. Now I read a lot about the media and media manipulation and one name kept appearing over and over in many of the books I read and that name was Hill and Knowlton. Saying their are a strategic communications consultancy is merely a nice way of saying they are a crisis management team.

When you need to clean up your image and a whitewash just wouldn't do the trick and your in deep enough and you need to be sand-blasted clean these are the people that get the call. Although it is not well known when the Canadian Human Rights Commission hired Professor Moon to do the white wash on their activities they also hired these people as well. The surprise that was evident when Professor Moon came to his conclusion might very well have been the brain child of these people.

One other thing the last time Stephen Harper did this the CHRC was finally on the front pages of the newspapers as they just couldn't ignore it anymore. So he threatens to strip the opposition of their money for votes stipend and the whole issue went away. Nor has it returned to the prominence it once had.

Let's face it the damn thing is still there and it is still in operation. You will, I hope, notice that one field of their expertise is crisis communications planning and management and they have been paid with your money to keep you in the dark or to deflect attention away from central issues.

You can read about some of their work here.

A Slowing Economy (and this is a surprise)

Globe and Mail Article

Considering the authorities did everything, including emotional blackmail, to try and get people to get an untested vaccine. I think that any slowing of the economy was brought about more by the notice of the McGuinty government announcement on the HST. Which will kill Ontario's above ground economy this year.

I still wish I could invest in the underground economy. The reason because that taxpayers have to face an increasingly hostile reality brought on totally by intrusive government polices and out-of-control spending will adapt by buying even less then they do now, or they will buy it under the radar. For an economy to recover your need consumers. To be a consumer you need disposable income. To have more disposal income you need to pay less taxes.

It would be nice if some of the people who run for public office would realize that being a public servant is not being a personal servant to every person who thinks their entitled to something in life. Public office is not a popularity contest with your standing in the rankings being purchased with OPM (Other People's Money)

What would also make life better for everyone is if those perpetually aggrieved "I'm a victim types" would stop looking at elected public servants as their personal ATM machine and conduit into other peoples purses and wallets. Other taxpayers are not morally or ethically responsible to pay for, in any way, shape, or form someones' personal lifestyle choice. Their free to make them and they are also free to figure out how to pay for them.

Gonorrhea "superbug" in Canada

Article 1

Article 2

Recently a couple of so-called "public" opinion polls showed that a majority of Canadians were supposedly still buying into the Global Warming myth. Down the list was STD's (sexually transmitted diseases) with 16 percent of the population concerned with this issue; a real issue by the way. However I hope you'll take time to view the two links above and understand the STD's are the greater danger because they are a real problem. At issue, in part, is a gonorrhea "superbug" which is resistant to antibiotics.

As the first link points out there were 4,477 cases of gonorrhea in Canada in 1997 whereas by 2007 there were 11,520 cases in Canada and 28% of them in 2006 were resistant to a potent class of antibiotics know as quinolones, this figure up from 4% in 2002. One other thing of interest in 1998 doctors were pretty sure they had turned the corner on coming to grips with the HIV infection rates however in 2001 the rates went through the roof just about everywhere in the world, North America, Europe, the former Soviet Union, Middle East, Southeast Asia, and in Africa things just went from bad to worse.

I have known about this for quite a while and will blog on it in the near future once again. I will do this because it appears to out of control in Canada and I have the statistics, government statistics, to prove it.

Ashamed - Why?

National Post article

Below is a letter I wrote to the author of the above article maybe I'll get some answers this time.

Interesting article in the National Post yesterday however the rates of people enjoying this government sold product are not dropping all that much. In fact the RCMP has stated that in both Ontario and Quebec it is their belief that upwards of 50% of the tobacco consumed in some areas is now contraband product. All those millions of people have done, your article gives the erroneous impression there are just a few holdouts, is diverted the money they spend on a legal product into those people delivering it in an illegal means. They are just voting with their wallets and purses because they're being treated like dirt. So any figures organizations like Physicians for a Smoke Free Canada are bogus in that they are based on purchases made from legitimate sources.

When the ban came in the tax paid on tobacco from legal sources was, according to government sources, 9.8 billion dollars. A new estimate now makes it only 6.6 billion dollars so they're out 3.2 billion dollars in taxes because of the phony SHS issue. The sad thing is they'll blame those people who indulge for the loss in revenue. Worse there will be people who will believe it as both logic and reason seem to have gone the way of the Dodo bird in this country. Want to see some thing interesting go to Google and type in two words Hitler and smoking and watch what comes up. It will, I think, make you wonder where our nation is going. You might also like to talk to Terence Corcoran about an article he wrote in the Globe and Mail back in 1998 where he pointed out the NSRA received almost 900,000 dollars three years before SHS became such burning health issue.

Lastly why did the Federal Government though the (CPPIB) Canadian Pension Plan Investment Board between 2006 and 2008 increase its holdings in off-shore tobacco companies from 90 million to 400 million dollars? It doesn't appear that Ontario will be smoke free anytime soon does it? Lastly why are provincially run government casinos allowed to have heated and sheltered areas for their patrons but privately owned establishments are not allowed to operate the same way?

So why should I be ashamed of anything; except what my country appears to be degenerating into in the 21st century?

The High Cost of Going Green (in Ontario)

Globe and Mail article

For those of you who live in Ontario especially, but of interest to you all, this article on the high cost of going green in Ontario should be a wake up call. The Government owned Ontario Power Generation receives 4.5 cents per kilowatt hour for the power it produces. Solar generators receive up to 80.2 cents a kilowatt hour for what they produce. The higher costs are already making themselves felt in peoples heating costs. One more thing part of the HST plan has a one time cheque, wealth re-distribution, bribe to every family in Ontario. I don't agree with robbing Peter to pay Paul on principal but I would like to know how many families earning 160K a year which is the top limit for anyone getting OPM (Other People's Money) are public servants?

With most of our manufacturing sector and it's higher paying jobs "gone with the wind" how many of these families are either single or two income families where the parents are in un-necessary government (taxpayer funded) positions? If it is a sizable amount this appears to be another way McGuinty is buying off the unions for their support. If the money was a waterfall we would watching a scene where the water would be running up hill. This is another example of how the poor people in the province, and by extension Canada, are subsidizing the wealthier people in the country. Universality is now showing itself for what it is; a Ponzi scheme of almost biblical proportions.

If you want to push socialism then you create the government induced environment where people think they need it. You do this by nickel and diming people to death on everything. This on top of the HST will pretty much kill any economic recovery in Ontario. Wind and solar power are both inconsistent in what they deliver and for that reason alone the taxpayer will not be getting value for their money. You will note that the article mentions gas-fired plants these are needed as back ups to the fancy, and frivolous, solar and wind farms. With the supplies of nature gas available in Canada why waste the money on wind and solar?

As Omar and the Howlers sing, "Hard Times in the Land of Plenty", is pretty much what Ontario residents can look forward to in the near future.

CanWest Newspapers For Sale

Any claim that CanWest newspaper have being operating anywhere near to profitability must be viewed in the light that many of them, for months, kept talking about how advertising revenues had plummeted. With CanWest 4 billion dollars in debt, "...most of their newspapers across the country have been operating close to profitable ...so I don't think it means we lose the Vancouver Sun or the Province or the Courier or any of the weeklies in the immediate future." this is a bit of a self serving statement on the part of Ross Howard a journalism instructor at Langara College in British Columbia. Let's face it if your graduates cannot get jobs you yourself will not have one for long as well.

CanWest has owned upwards of 77% of the media in Canada and that kind of concentration under one roof is not good for journalism. There is a temptation to hedge what you write as a reporter for if the head office doesn't like what you write and fires you where can you go? The only other media groups of any size in Canada is Quebecor which owns about 11% after that your just "little people" like the rest of us common folk as the one character tells Deckard in the movie Bladerunner.

If CanWest has to sell off their newspaper division the readership in this country, which has being falling at a frightening rate, would do well to insist that it not be sold as a block to another group of owners. In journalism, as with all private enterprise, competition always will lead to a better product and innovation in it's delivery. Those people who would dispute this are those people who have controlled, or tried to control, the content and message for too long. We need look no further the Global Warming Scam an it's environmental supporters who never seemed to come under the microscope that perhaps they should have even as the evidence mounted that something wasn't quite right about the whole thing.

The death of a newspaper is never a good thing and people should not rejoice at this situation. However monopolies do not last forever technology always brings about new ways of "getting the word out". So if CanWest does sell its chain of newspaper let us hope it is not to one group or person thus assuring it will not be one monopoly merely being replaced by another.

Prorogued Government

CBC Article

So the question ultimately becomes this in the end. Does a poll of 1,000 Canadians by the Harris-Decima polling group or a facebook site with 25,000 signatories actually reflect the real concerns of the greater number of Canadians.

Facebook user are a very political bunch and they appear to be not to happy with people who do not show up for work, while still getting paid, based on the idea of one individual who doesn't, it appears, care to face the music.

While I like the National Post a great deal the comment of columnist John Ivison that, "...this is not a groundswell of public opinion" might be indicative of how out-of-touch with reality the media is in this country as well.

Both politicians AND the media would do well to make sure Canadians don't get it into their heads that they are in cahoots together in denying people their say or informing them completely and honestly.

States cut pointless anti-tobacco funding

By Dr. William Campbell Douglass I.I., M.D.

Remember those zillion-dollar tobacco settlement funds that were supposed to pay for anti-smoking propaganda?

Well, now politicians are deciding they need that money for other things — probably more bridges to nowhere — and those funds are drying up.

That didn’t take long, did it? Those government clowns burn through piles of cash faster than I can light up a fine Dominican cigar.

The 1998 settlement requires Big Tobacco to make huge annual payments to the states… with the understanding that a significant portion of the money go toward tobacco- related programs like anti-smoking campaigns.

But a new report finds that state governments cut $103.4 million, or more than 15 percent, from their anti-tobacco propaganda funds, despite collecting more cash from that settlement than ever before.

And in the coming year, those states will collect more than $25 billion from that tobacco settlement fund and tobacco taxes… but spend just over 2 percent of it — $567.5 million — on tobacco-prevention programs.

I’ve never known a politician who could keep his grimy hands out of the cookie jar, and this latest news shows just how badly they need to spend every dollar in sight on pork-barrel projects.

And with money tighter than ever, they’re raising taxes, adding fees and pinching from every fund in sight.

Normally, I’d be outraged.

But in this case, I’m as pleased as punch — because the anti-tobacco movement is one of the most underhanded, misguided, ill-informed nanny-state campaigns ever created. The ridiculous “public service” spots paid for with these funds are among the worst commercials on TV — every bit as bad as Big Pharma’s drug ads when it comes to misinformation and half-truths.

And that’s saying something.

If you enjoy smoking, take my advice: Keep right on enjoying it, until they pry that last butt from your tobacco-stained fingertips. Just remember to take the smoke into your mouth, not your lungs — the membrane inside your cheeks will absorb everything you need to get all the benefits.

Then be sure to exhale your second-hand smoke in full view of the tobacco-loathing, money-burning nanny-staters.

Some more light reading about the Nazi's, yes those people, and where it all started. Please note that Hitler and the Nazi's were lefties.

Where it's going.
